EVENTS SPAN 7800 MILES, COAST-TO-COAST AND BEYOND
2011 marked another successful year for Banyan Tree Project and the National A&PI HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. We continued to use the slogan "Saving face can't make you safe. Talk about HIV" and focused on HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases among young Asian & Pacific Islander women, whose rates of HIV infection have been on the rise in the last decade.
We supported organizations across the country and in the six US-affiliated Pacific Island Jurisdictions to commemorate May 19th and raise HIV awareness in their communities. This year, we had over 25 events in 23 cities, spanning over 7,800 miles from the Federated States of Micronesia to Panama City, Florida. Events included press conferences, trainings, HIV testing drives and community parades. Our fact sheets, tote bags and other giveaway items were a big hit. Like us on Facebook so you can see the inspirational images from community events across the country!
