A&PI WELLNESS CENTER STAFF PRESENT AT AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE & UNITED STATES CONFERENCE ON AIDS: This year, A&PI Wellness Center staff will be presenting workshops at two prestigious national conferences. The first conference is the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association (APHA) in Washington DC at the end of October. T-LISH Gala: Not the End, Just the Beginning: Our program targeting young trans women of color, or "T-LISH" was one of the many programs that ended in September. Funded through a subcontract from AIDS Healthcare Foundation, T-Lish was one of many successful and robust HIV prevention programs targeting youth of color nationally that were not refunded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center is proud to have been a beneficiary of REAL BAD XXIII, the dance party immediately following the Folsom Street Fair. REAL BAD is an annual fundraising event benefiting LGBT charities with local impact in San Francisco. This new partnership increases our unrestricted funds to support work not covered by government grants or contracts.
It was a delight for us to work with such an amazing, committed grassroots group that has raised $1.25 million over the past two decades. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Real Bad in 2012!

It's been a month since TRANS:THRIVE moved in with the rest of A&PI Wellness Center, and the staff and clients are all working hard on settling in. The TRANS:THRIVE staff spent the week leading up to the move painting the entire drop-in and office space. It took three days to complete, and it looks great! A&PI LEADERSHIP ACADEMY'S YOUNG LEADERS FORUM: On Tuesday, June 21, members of the Leadership Academy presented the finding from their three research projects during the Young Leaders Forum in our offices. Their work was inspired and informed by the community and gaps in existing community resources. The academy provided space for young queer A&PI men to reflect on their lived experiences, formulate questions, and engage in processes of inquiry while nurturing the connections between the self, community, learning, research, and action. Life saving drugs have been developed allowing people living with HIV/AIDS to live longer, productive lives.
