  HIV Testing - Window Period

“Window Period”

The Oraquick Rapid Test we use detects HIV antibodies in a person’s body. Antibodies are made by our immune system as a reaction to infectious agents. When someone is infected with the HIV virus, it usually takes their body anywhere from two weeks to six months to develop the HIV antibodies, with most people developing them in three months. This means that if a person has had an incident of risk that he/she/ze/they is concerned about, that person should wait at least two weeks to get an HIV test since it will take at least that long for the antibodies to become detectable.
