DIRECTOR OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

(Full-time, Regular)

Position Description:
The Director of Finance and Administration (DFA) is an integral leader of Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center, contributing to the strength, growth and long-term development of the organization. The DFA is directly responsible for all financial, human resources, and operational functions of our organization.

IDEAL CANDIDATE DESCRIPTION:
The ideal candidate will have two critical elements: (1) a passion for the mission of A&PI Wellness Center, inclusive of a belief in the future direction and long-term priorities and goals of our organization, and (2) a strategic vision for the financial, HR and administrative areas of the organization as they are aligned with the organization's values and long-term direction.

Beyond our core HIV, Hepatitis and other health services that we provide to the Asian & Pacific Islander and transgender communities of San Francisco, two key priorities include (1) local and national HIV and health public policy and advocacy, and (2) transforming the organization into a primary care provider via the initial route of establishing a free primary care community clinic.

The ideal candidate will have director-level finance and HR experience and be an effective supervisor, with demonstrated skills related to operations and information technology.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Finance
    • Lead our annual organization budgeting process, resulting in a balanced budget that tells the financial "story" of our organization - a clear financial plan that is consistent with the organization's strategic programs, goals and initiatives;
    • Oversee the organization's financial accounting systems and functions (including A/R, A/P, Payroll, and Tax), maintaining internal fiscal controls - resulting in a clean annual audit, in full compliance with generally accepted accounting principles;
    • Generate monthly financial statements and ongoing financial analysis so that organizational decisions can be made based on our financial position - and partnering with the Executive Director to report to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors;
    • Ensure that our day-to-day cash flow and cash projections are strong, that we effectively manage our line of credit, and that the organization continues to strengthen its overall cash position and net assets;
    • Be in direct contact with our funders, ensuring that we in compliance with all administrative and financial aspects of our grants and contracts and that they are paying us on time.
    • Manage our general insurance policies and contracts, ensuring appropriate and cost-effective coverages.
  • Human Resources
    • Ensure that our employees have a strong package of benefits that are aligned with our financial position and ability - lead all benefits administration for our employees; providing ongoing support to staff to ensure effective utilization and access of benefits
    • Spearhead our performance management program - ensure that all employees will have an annual performance evaluation, opportunities at our organization to build skills and talents, and be rewarded & compensated appropriately;
    • Oversee all recruitment and hiring efforts, resulting in the infusion of new talent into our organization that contributes to the agency's mission and strengthens our programs and services;
    • Ensure a safe, healthy and vibrant workplace environment by proactively managing organizational culture and employee relations issues, compliance and risk management issues, human resources information integrity, and ensuring ongoing feedback mechanisms for staff.
  • Additional Areas include, but are not limited to:
    • Operations: Oversee operations and facilities management across our facilities, lead all safety policies and procedures, and oversee reception and office administration functions;
    • Information Technology: Oversee information technology in strategic and tactical planning, development, evaluation and coordination of the information and technology systems for our organization;
    • Volunteer Management: Oversee the volunteer management function to ensure an effective and robust program;
    • Supervision of Finance, HR, Operations, Volunteer Management, and Information Technology staff.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or equivalent experience
  • At least five years experience in a financial and administrative leadership position in a public/private/nonprofit environment and experience as a member of senior management teams
  • At least three years overseeing HR functions, with demonstrated experience handling risk management issues and managing employee relations issues
  • High personal and professional integrity
  • Excellent supervisory and coaching skills, and strong, demonstrated facilitative leadership skills
  • Sensitivity to HIV issues, as well as gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and language diversity
  • Experience and ability to work independently, as well as with and across all levels of management and line staff
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Experience and ability to influence and collaborate in a diverse and cross-functional workplace.
  • Experience and ability to identify stakeholders' needs / concerns and provide proactive solutions.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and fund accounting software.
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.

Strongly Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA and/or Masters Degree in business administration or related field
  • Information Technology expertise
  • Proficiency in MIP fund accounting software
