ONAP releases report on community feedback for National HIV/AIDS Strategy
In the fall of 2009, the White House Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP) asked Americans to provide input into the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) slated to be released later this year. To increase community involvement in the NHAS, ONAP created an online feedback submission portal and hosted 14 community discussions throughout the United States. Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center played a crucial role in highlighting the needs and challenges of the A&PI and Trans communities at both the San Francisco and Oakland Community Discussions. Thank you to all who participated and shared your stories, both in person and online.
On April 9, 2010, ONAP released the final report, “Community Ideas for Improving the Response to the Domestic HIV Epidemic: A Report on a National Dialogue on HIV/AIDS.” Included in the report are photos and quotes from A&PI Wellness Center community members and staff. Please read the report, which is intended to serve as “a baseline for the status of the domestic epidemic and serve as a planning tool and resource for Federal, State and local agencies.”
