Transgender Employment Workshop Series 2 to be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006

After a resounding success of the launch of the Transgender Employment Workshop last November 14 at the A&PI Wellness Center, we are happy to announce the 2nd installment of the Transgender Employment Workshop. This will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 10:00am at the A&PI Wellness Center’s Banyan Room.

Open enrollment of the Transgender Employment Workshop series is still going on. However, if certain topics interest you, you are more than welcome to attend just that session. We recommend calling in advance to make sure that there is are still slots available.

The next Transgender Employment Workshop is entitled, “Exploring your Full Potential!” We have invited resume expert, Beth Brown to discuss the importance of a resume and how it can work best for you!

Session 1 “Are You Ready?”

Workshop 1, “Are You Ready?”, will start the Asian and Pacific Islander Wellness Center Employment Workshop series with a bang! We, at the A&PI Wellness, realize that there is potential in every individual. This session will hopefully get each workshop participant on her way to realizing her personal employment potential. Featured in this workshop is a panel consisting of past workshop participants. This group will talk about their experience with the A&PI Employment Workshops as well as their experience in their current jobs. Also in this panel are a couple of TG movers and shakers. Each will offer their unique point of views which we guarantee will motivate and encourage those who attend.

Session 2 “Exploring Your Full Potential!”

Resume? Cover letter? Thank you letter? Do these sound like foreign concepts or simply just too difficult to do? “Exploring Your Full Potential!” will expose the secrets of writing these very important documents. We will share with you tried and tested methods and different resources that will make describing yourself in words easy and make employers take notice.

Session 3 “Lights! Camera! Action! You’re on the Interview Seat”

The next step towards getting that job is showing prospective employers that you are skillful, confident, and qualified during the interview process. This could be an intimidating step especially for transgender individuals for many reasons. “Lights! Camera! Action! You’re on the Interview Seat” will help you navigate through what otherwise could be a scary process. We will share expert knowledge that will help you project the right impression from that first handshake all the way to the last interview question and answer!

Session 4 “Meet the Experts!”

It is said that it’s important what you know but what really matters is who you know. This session will introduce each participant to the art of networking. We will feature representatives from different organizations who will share their knowledge of their particular field. These representatives may even be actively seeking competent and quality employees, ladies, so come and get that stilettoed foot in the door!

Session 5 ”You’re Set to Go! Know Your Rights!”

Transgender individuals face unique obstacles in employment, education, as well as in our personal lives. Come join us in our discussion about these hurdles and explore tools that are helpful towards a healthy body, mind, spirit, and pocketbook! We are actually fortunate especially here in San Francisco to have incredible members of the TG community and many others who fought and are still fighting to get our rights in our law books. This workshop session will provide information about these rights so that all transgender individuals may be empowered in the workplace, at home, and everywhere!

Session 6 “You’ve Made it! Happy Graduation!”
Tuesday, April 10, 2006, 10:00am- 1:00pm

This session will be considered the graduation ceremony. This will be a party to celebrate each workshop participant’s success and plans for the future. Those who participated in all the workshops, and those who may not have been able to attend all, will be honored and celebrated.
