Asians & Pacific Islanders Living with HIV
This Clinician's Guide is a practical resource for medical
providers who are confronted with basic cultural challenges
presented by Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) patients
living with HIV infection. Information is based on the direct
experience of patients and the experience reported by providers
who have worked with these patients.
This Guide responds to three questions:
- What cultural factors amplify the difficulties faced
by Asians and Pacific Islanders with HIV?
- How do these cultural amplifiers affect a patient's access
to services?
- What can a medical provider do to address language and
cultural barriers and to help empower their Asian &
Pacific Islander patients living with HIV?
