The 2006 Cross Regional Asian and Pacific Islander Skills Building Training

The 2006 Cross Regional Asian and Pacific Islander Skills Building Training was organized by the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team, Los Angles, CA (http://www.apaitonline.org/) in collaboration with the local partners in Honolulu, Life Foundation. The 2-day training was held on January 19th and 20th, 2006 at the Hawai'i AIDS Education and Training Center, Honolulu, Hawai'i.

The training had 17 participants from the Pacific Islands and the West coast. The facilitators were Uyen Kao and Rose Veniegas from UCLA. The facilitators took the participants through the DEBIs and adapting them to local conditions and target groups without losing effectiveness. They facilitated cross learning among the group mainly in the area of 2 interventions: Popular Opinion Leader (POL) and SISTA. The participants developed skills on logic models and curriculum development through practical exercises and group work. The participants went through the process of replicating DEBIs through research and evaluation.
