
Workshop Descriptions
The ATE Program culminated its Employment Workshop Series with a Graduation and Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Twenty-five inspired and empowered transgender women received honors for attending one or more workshops. Each graduate received recognition from the ATE Program and from the Office of Mayor Gavin Newsom. Workshop participants were honored with a Certificate of Appreciation bearing Mayor Newsom’s signature and the Seal of the City and County of San Francisco.

The Asian & Pacific Islander Empowerment (A.T.E.) Program
hosts its’ third wave of employment workshops! “Inspire
and Achieve!” Transgender Employment
Workshops 3.0 aims to encourage and nurture transgender community
members in their employment goals. Discover the different
career worlds of Computers, Health Care, Hospitality, and
Administration with Employment Workshops 3.0!
Session 1: “Inspire & Achieve! (Launch/Enrollment)
Tuesday, September 11, 2007, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
The Asian & Pacific
Islander Empowerment (A.T.E.) program hosts its third wave
of employment workshops! “Inspire
and Achieve!” Transgender Employment Workshops 3.0
aims to encourage and nurture transgender community members
in their employment goals. Participants to this workshop
will be motivated to identify their own “pot of gold” and
will be offered resources
towards working on their identified prize!
Session 2 : Computer Training: “Train
For Success!”
Tuesday, October 9, 2007, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Computer literacy
is a skill needed for most workplaces. Success in most stages
of employment is easier to attain if you know your way around
the computer. This workshop session will uncover the what,
where, when, and how of the computer industry. Be a part
of this workshop series and learn what kind of jobs or employment
activities require you to be computer literate, where you
can get trained, who can help and more! We will also discuss
how transgender folks as a community, is making strides to
get trained to succeed using knowledge of computers. Be a
part of this great progress!
Session 3: Health Care: “Heal the World
One Body at a Time.”
Tuesday, November 13, 2007, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
What kind of
jobs can I get in the Health Care Field? How do I get entry
into this job sector that will be hiring the most employees
for a long period of time? These questions and many more
will be answered during Session 3 of the TG employment workshops.
Come and discover your potential for growth and an opportunity
to heal and nurture others in the field of Health Care.
Session 4: Hospitality: “Put on a Winning
Smile!”
Tuesday, December 11, 2007, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Hear from industry
experts about careers in the Hospitality industry! This workshop
will open eyes about another field of work that is still
booming and projected to be doing so in the coming years.
As large numbers of Americans age and with their incomes
simultaneously increasing, there will be more and more growth
and investments pouring into services provided by this industry.
Attend this Employment workshop session and find your place
within this rich and booming work.
Session 5: Administrative Work : “File,
Organize, Send, Receive…Achieve!”
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Learn the ins
and outs of office support and administration from the 5th
session of the A.T.E. employment workshop series. Administrative
work is more than filing, organizing, sending, and receiving.
You as a workshop participant will learn many more things
about this field including how it has helped our fellow transgender
sisters and brothers achieve success!
Session 6: “Inspired and Ready to Achieve!” Transgender
Employment Workshops 3.0 Graduation Ceremony
Tuesday, February 12, 2008 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
This
session will be considered the graduation ceremony. This
will be a party to celebrate each workshop participant’s
success and plans for the future. Those who participated
in all the workshops, and those who may not have been able
to attend all, will be honored and celebrated.
