Agency description: Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center's (A&PIWC) mission is to educate, support, empower, and advocate for Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) communitiesparticularly A&PI's living with HIV/AIDS. The HIV Testing Program Volunteer supports the work of the HIV Testing program by performing administrative responsibilities, outreaching at various A&PI community fairs and events. If appropriate and certified, volunteers will provide HIV test counseling services which include risk assessment, disclosure and referrals provision. The HIV Testing Volunteer will report to and be supervised by the HIV Testing Supervisor.
Major Responsibilities
- In coordination with the HIV Testing Program staff, conducts
outreach and provides education at various A&PI street and community fairs and other events

If deemed appropriate by HIV Testing Supervisor, will conduct HIV pre- and post-test counseling

Setting up reception area for the Wellness Wednesday HIV Testing
- Assisting in registering testing and disclosure appointments with
clients and staff
- Maintains supply of materials such as referrals lists, educational
literature and safer sex tools
- Promotes awareness of and access to A&PI-specific HIV/STD services among physicians, clinics, other A&PI agencies, and other health-related agencies as well as the San Francisco A&PI community, broadly
- Other duties as assigned by the HIV/STD Testing Staff.
Minimum Qualifications
- Will be able to commit minimum of 3-5 hours/week on Wednesdays from 3-7 p.m. for 3-6 months

Completion of A&PIWC’s 3-day volunteer training
- If deemed appropriate by HIV Testing Supervisor, will attend 5-day HIV test counseling certification training course
- Proven ability to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive
client information
- Highly organized, self-motivated, reliable and able to work within a team
Preferred Qualification:
- Counseling experience
- Experience advocating for A&PIs, diverse sexual/gender orientations
the homeless, substance users, limited English speakers, immigrants and /or multiple-diagnosed individuals
- Working knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STD issues in the Asian & Pacific Islander communities
- Some knowledge of HIV/STD transmission and treatment
- Bilingual in English and one of the following Asian languages; Thai,
Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, Vietnamese, Lao, Cambodian and Japanese or Pacific Islander languages
