On Friday, March 19, 2004, Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness
Center (A&PI Wellness Center) hosted its third Asian &
Pacific Islander Women's Wellness Day to mark Women's Month.
Ninety-four guests attended and were offered a myriad of free
services and workshops including: legal consultation, blood
pressure screenings, pregnancy test screenings, oral HIV testing,
consultation in regards to accessing health care, childwatch
and workshops that focused on a variety of topics related to
women's issues. Guests received free women's safer sex kit packets
and ate healthy food provided by Rainbow Grocery.
Acknowledging the need to make resources even more accessible
to non-English speaking guests, A&PI Wellness Center provided
and encouraged other service providers to have pamphlets available
in multiple languages; A&PI Wellness Center's staff, fluent
in over twenty different A&PI languages, was present.
The event also included guest speakers and entertainment. A&PI
Wellness Center Board Member Fatima Angeles opened the ceremony.
Guest Speaker Linda Juang inspired participants, Purple Moon
Dance Project moved the crowd, and entertaining studs the Transformers
got people cheering and clapping along to their performance.
